The standard H&M (Hull & Machinery) in the main line of Al-Bahriah’s business. H&M covers maritime losses incurred by Ship owners that are directly connected to physical loss or damage of their ships.
Other products and services provided by Al-Bahriah are also designed to protect Ship owners and Ship managers against losses, liabilities and expenses incurred to third parties. In addition to the standard products above, Al-Bahriah also offers marine cargo insurance, marine related liabilities and other captive solutions.
CARGO
Cargo insurance covers physical loss or damage to goods shipped by sea. The Institute Cargo Clauses define cover at various levels and can include:
- Fire or explosion
- Vessel or craft stranded, grounded, sunk or capsized
- Land conveyance overturned or derailed
- Collision or contact of vessel, craft or conveyance with
- external objects other than water
- Discharge of cargo at port of distress
- Earthquake, volcanic eruption, lightning
- General Average sacrifice
- Jettison
- Washing overboard
- Entry of sea, lake or river water into vessel, craft, hold, conveyance, container or liftvan
- Total loss of package lost overboard or dropped whilst loading or unloading from vessel
- Malicious damage
- Theft
- Piracy
- General Average and Salvage charges
- Both to Blame Collision liability
Hull Machinery (M&I)
Hull & Machinery covers physical loss or damage to the vessel caused by:
- Perils of the seas rivers lakes or other navigable waters
- Fire, explosion
- Jettison
- Contract with land conveyance, dock or harbour equipment or installation
- Earthquake volcanic eruption or lightning
- Accidents in loading discharging or shifting cargo or fuel
- Bursting of boilers breakage of shafts or any latent defect in the machinery or hull
- Negligence of Masters Officers Crew or Pilots
- Negligence of repairers or charterers provided they are not an Assured- hereunder
- Contact with aircraft, helicopters or similar objects falling therefrom
- Collision liability to other vessels
- General average, salvage & sue and labour
Protection & Indemnity (P&I)
Protection & Indemnity covers liabilities of Ship owners against third parties and includes:
- Liability for crew members
- Liability for persons other than the crew
- Liability for damage caused to other vessels
- Liability for loss or damage to the fixed and floating objects
- Liability for removal of the wreck
- Liability in respect of cargo carried on board the vessel
- Liability for pollution
- Fines and Penalties
- Liability for Towage
- Stowaways and refugees
- Diversion expense

War & Strikes
War and Strikes insurance cover loss, damage or liability arising from:
- War civil war revolution rebellion insurrection, or civil strife arising therefrom, or any hostile act by or against a belligerent power.
- Capture seizure arrest restraint or detainment, and the consequences thereof or any attempt thereat
- Derelict mines torpedoes bombs or other derelict weapons of war strikers, locked-out workmen, or persons taking part in labour disturbances riots or civil commotions
- Any terrorist or any person acting maliciously or from a political motive confiscation or expropriation
- Piracy, Violent theft and barratry. – Blocking and
- Trapping.
- Missing Vessel.
- Crew liabilities.
- Vandalism and sabotage.
Yacht
Al-Bahriah provides insurance coverage for recreational crafts ranging from small leisure boats to luxury yachts. The policy is comprehensive and covers All Risks of physical loss or damage to the yacht as well as third party liability.
Warranties, exclusions and definitions are clearly set out in the policy. Additional covers can also be provided for the trailer, personal effects, water sports activities as well as protection and indemnity.
Enquiries for yacht insurance cruising in short coastal areas or limited international waters can be obtained by a completed Application Form. A Condition Survey may be necessary prior to acceptance of the yacht
MLC
MLC Certificates in accordance with 2014 amendments entering into force on 18 January 2017.
Crew repatriation as well as up to four months contractually entitled arrears of wages and entitlements following abandonment (MLC Regulation 2.5.2, as amended), and Liabilities for contractual claims arising from seafarer personal injury, disability or death (MLC Standard A4.2, as amended).
